Relying on Your Neighbor

Relying on Your Neighbor

What could you learn today that could be
something that you could offer to others tomorrow?

I think John articulated these thoughts well in his video. He talks about how communities long ago were producer oriented. What I mean is that the folks who lived together each had a skill that they contributed to the community that enabled that community to subsist, to provide for itself, to thrive.

One of the things I love about learning folk art is that these things we call art today are actually these very skills that individuals contributed. These arts were not considered ‘special’ but rather ‘necessary.’ They were not considered something done to beautify a home as much as they were done to provide an item that was needed for survival.

Can you you garden? Construct with wood? Configure a space?

Are you good with speaking? Writing? Peacemaking?

Why not hone that skill and connect with a historical village in your area where you can share your knowledge with others. You would be amazed at who wants to learn that skill too. Share it!
