Good Bug, Bad Bug
Saturday, November 26, 2022
9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Instructor: Robert Bowden
While it might be a catchy title for this class, “good bug” and “bad bug” are misleading terms. Every insect and organism has an important role to play in supporting the environment’s balance. Even though a particular bug may eat our vegetables or flowers, they probably are an important food source for another bug or animal. However, when we start spraying chemicals without understanding why, we throw everything out of whack. If you’re wondering whether or not you will learn how to stop bugs from gobbling up your garden, the answer is yes. How you prevent your favorite plants from being eaten will be the topic of the day.
Robert Bowden recently retired as Executive Director of Leu Gardens after nearly three decades. Earlier he was the Executive Director of the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Director of Horticulture of the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. He is the author of many books including: Florida Fruit & Vegetable Gardening: Plant, Grow, and Harvest the Best Edibles. He also teaches several horticulture classes at Valencia State College.
