SUMMARY:Modern Homesteading Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Event\nThe annual Modern Homesteading Conference is a two-day event held in the picturesque Pacific Northwest bringing together the art of simple living and traditional skills where you’ll be educated and inspired like never before. \nPresentations and lectures from experienced homesteaders\, with tracts for those new to homesteading as well as topics for those who have been on the path longer. \nBypass years of mistakes by learning from our expert speakers to create a productive homestead and find your kind of people all at the same place\, if you’ve ever felt alone on this journey you need to attend! \nThe Modern Homesteading Conference is 2 full days of actionable\, strategic\, and time-tested presentations from experienced experts that have been where you are and created thriving homesteads. \nEverything you hear at the conference is from people who have been using these techniques for years (usually decades) in the gardens\, fields\, and kitchens of their homes. You’ll also experience live demonstrations! \nYou’ll leave the conference with confidence\, answers\, and a notebook of strategies to implement immediately. \nIt’s one thing to dream of a homestead and watch YouTube videos about it. It’s another to truly commit and do it. \nThat’s why we’re bringing you speakers who aren’t spouting theory\, they’ve lived this lifestyle for decades. Speakers who also understand a northern climate with short warm-weather growing seasons\, long winters\, and then two months of no rain in July and August. Speakers who feed their family year-round from their homestead and provide not only for themselves\, but many of them offer sustainable and pasture-raised livestock to others. \nYou’ll leave the Modern Homesteading Conference inspired to take your homestead to the next level\, with a PLAN\, from growing more food\, using herbs for yourself and your animals\, implementing livestock\, and preserving it for year-round eating. \nLearn from experienced homesteaders and find your community all at the same LIVE event June 28th & 29th\, 2024 in Idaho!  RSVP

SUMMARY:400th World Devon Congress Tour
DESCRIPTION:Dear Devon Enthusiast\, \nDevon Cattle are making history and\, in the news\, again. Of course\, I am talking about the World Devon Congress tour and 400 Year commemoration of Devon cattle coming to the Plymouth colony and birthing the us cattle industry. I am so excited to share this historical celebration with Breeders from around the world and with our fellow American Milking Devon cattlemen and cattlewomen from right here in the US. For many years\, I have sought the company of and enjoyed the wisdom of my good friend\, John Hall\, AMDA President. We have worked together on numerous Devon projects going back Decades. Before this\, I sold cattle to Johns Uncle\, Ray Clark and before that\, his aunt\, Diurna Kibbe (Daughter of Devon legend\, Myron Green). Simply put\, the Hall family is Devon Royalty\, and I am honored to celebrate this Historic occasion with them and with all of you. \nSo\, please join us for the 2024 World Devon Congress tour (info in magazine). Many premier US Devon breeders are preparing for our arrival and will showcase their cattle and farming operations\, share wisdom and insight to farming in their environment\, and generously wine and dine us all as we celebrate together the worlds most practical breed of cattle! \nIf you can’t make it for the whole tour\, there are opportunities to participate on a smaller scale or for portions of the journey. The BIG CELEBRATION will be May 2nd\, 2024\, at Plimoth Patuxent Museum in Plymouth\, Mass. This is not to be missed as we walk Devon cattle through the living history museum reenacting the first animals landing in Plimoth\, 400 years ago. We will also hear reports from the Presidents of the Different Devon breed societies from around the Globe\, and more. Please reach out with any questions or to volunteer to help spread the word. \nFrom\, \nRed Devon USA President\, Jeremy Engh \n  \n\nRed Devon History \n\n\n\nIn 1492\, Columbus came to North America. Over the next 130 years\, the pilgrims survived on supplies of primarily fish and shellfish. Without hunting restrictions\, deer\, wild fowl\, rabbits and other small animals were also available to anyone who could hunt and trap them. The Pilgrims also brought farm animals with them\, including pigs\, chickens\, and goats\, but it wasn’t until later that sheep and cows were added. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese animals would turn out to be the foundation stock for the U.S. beef and dairy industries. Furthermore\, these cattle would serve as oxen and advance western expansion in the U.S. The cattle that the Pilgrims chose were a remarkable breed called the Devon. Even more remarkable is that these cattle are still in production today. In fact\, every 4 years since 1980\, Devon breeders from around the world get together to celebrate this breed and to visit premier Devon operations. In April and May of 2024\, this celebration will take place in the U.S.\, culminating with the reenactment of the first animals coming to the Plymouth colony. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis tour will reach hundreds\, if not thousands\, of farmers and ranchers up and down the east coast. Media coverage and national exposure are expected for this historical event as well. We hope you will join us in celebration of this event in one of many ways.

SUMMARY:Foundations for Farming USA Training for Trainers
DESCRIPTION:Foundations for Farming USA Training for Trainers\nMarch 2024 Training\nThere is a growing need in our troubled times for people to learn how to grow food in a simple\, uncomplicatedmanner that produces joy and freedom in their life. But to really do this they also need the transforming hope ofthe message of Jesus. Foundations for Farming is an approach to food production that is based on the heart ofJesus and produces incredible yields through simple\, low-tech methods. Through tools like the Well-WateredGarden we seek to give people simple approaches that enable people to grow food in a simple way that is easyto pass on to others. Our vision is to equip a network of trainers about the United States and world who can helpmeet the growing demand for solutions to the looming global food crisis. \nSunday\, Mar. 17th – Thursday\, Mar. 21st\, 2024 \nThis is specifically for people who feel called to impact others by hosting their own trainings in their owncommunity or through existing mission or ministry work. This is ‘training for trainers’ and will be limited to asmall group so that we will be able to cater it to the specific needs and situations of the students attending. Wewill need a minimum of 5 adult attendees and maximum of 10. We plan to offer these training multiple timesthroughout the year and students will need to attend one of the subsequent scheduled trainings if theregistration for this training is too small or full. Follow up support will be available as graduates host their owntrainings in the coming months. \nWhat You Will Learn\nWe will be training students to teach others from a Gospel-based Biblical worldview using the Well-WateredGarden training curriculum 12-lesson program. \nBy the end of the training you will be able to: \n\nCommunicate how the gospel relates to agriculture.\nUnderstand what it takes to have soil that produces abundant crops naturally\nManage your garden in a way that produces joy and makes a profit.\nUse eight simple questions to create an easy\, but effective garden plan.\nClear a spot for your garden without plowing or tilling\nMake thermal compost and natural organic fertilizers\nLayout garden beds with a simple system that allows for ease of management and space for a variety ofcrops.\nPlant seeds or transplants with a simple spacing system that is easy to follow and remember.\nCare faithfully for your garden with three simple tasks.\nShare your faith in Jesus through your garden.\nTrain others in what you have just learned.\n\nWe will also be covering more in-depth topics like: \n\nScaling up for homestead-level food security\nGrowing for markets\nAlternative (off-grid) energy\nBackyard chickens\nHome dairy operations\n\nThere will also be time for discussion and questions for more specific topics pertinent to the studentsattending. \nTraining Location\nThis training will be hosted at Rora Valley Farms in Goodwater\, Alabama and will include both classroom andpractical training as well as practice actually teaching others. No previous agricultural experience is required. \nIf you are flying\, Birmingham\, Alabama is the closest major airport (1 hour from the farm). Atlanta can also havecheaper flights but it is a 2.5 hour drive from the farm. \nStudents will arrive for lunch on Sunday and will leave after lunch on Thursday. Housing will be in shared roomson the farm or at a nearby camp (couples and families will get private rooms) and meals will be provided familystyle at our off-grid farmhouse. We will do our best to accommodate any food allergies. \nWho is this training for?\nWhether you are a full time farmer\, part time homesteader\, backyard gardener\, farmer wanna-be\, or someoneinterested in incorporating agriculture as part of your ministry or church\, this training is designed to help you inthe journey God has you on. Our goal is that you will leave equipped to live for Jesus\, excel in agriculture\, andmake disciples!
